Boudoir for Mums on the Gold Coast

Happy Mother’s Day! 💖

Mother’s Day always comes wrapped in flowers, handmade cards, and little voices saying “Mum, look what I made you!”—and while those moments are everything, there’s also a quiet, unspoken truth that most mums will laugh at (and also feel guilty admitting)… what they really want is just a little bit of time to themselves. 🌸

Not because they don’t love their kids, of course they do, more than anything in the world, but because being a mum is full on. It’s constant. It’s being needed from the moment you wake up to the moment you finally fall into bed, and even then, sometimes you’re still “on.” It’s noise, questions, snacks, mess, touch, decisions, and responsibility – all day, every day. And after a while, even the most loving, devoted mum can feel overwhelmed, overstimulated, touched out, and completely drained.

And yet… mums are often the last ones to admit that they need a break.

They pour and pour and pour into everyone else, forgetting that their own cup is running on empty.

If you’re a mum reading this, I want you to take a second and answer this honestly:

When was the last time you did something just for you? Not for your kids. Not for your partner. Not for your family, your work, your responsibilities. Just for you.

If you had to think about it for more than a few seconds, you’re not alone. In fact, about 90% of the women who walk through my studio doors are mums. And almost every single one of them says some version of the same thing:

“I haven’t had time.”
“I always put everyone else first.”
“I didn’t realise how much I needed this until now.”

Ms A was one of those mums.

From the outside, she’s warm, vibrant, and full of life. The kind of woman who lights up a room with her smile. But like so many mums, she had quietly placed herself at the bottom of the list. Because that’s what mums do, right?

They give. They care. They juggle. They carry everything. And somewhere along the way, they forget that they’re allowed to be taken care of too.

When Ms A came in for her session, it wasn’t because she had endless free time or nothing else going on. It was because, deep down, she knew she needed a moment. A reset. A chance to reconnect with herself, not just as a mum, but as a woman.

There’s something really special that happens when mums step into my studio. At first, there’s that hesitation. The feeling of “this is a bit indulgent…” The little voice that says, “I should be doing something more productive.”

But here’s what I gently remind them:

You taking care of yourself is productive.

Because when you are running on empty, everyone around you feels it. And when you are full – energised, confident, connected – you show up differently. With more patience, more presence, and more joy.

A mum taking some well deserved time to herself for Mother's Day with a boudoir session on the Gold Coast.

That’s why Mother’s Day shouldn’t just be about what everyone else gives you, it should also be about what you allow yourself to receive. Permission to step away for a moment, to breathe, permission to do something that is just for you. Because here’s the truth: you cannot keep giving from a place of exhaustion. You cannot keep showing up as your best self when you are constantly running on empty. Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. It’s how you reset, recharge, and come back feeling more like you again.

And sometimes, that looks like something small… a quiet coffee alone, a long shower without interruptions, a walk with your thoughts. Sometimes, it looks like something bigger. Something intentional. Something just for you. Something that reminds you that you are more than just “mum.”

Because you are. You are a woman. A person. Someone who deserves to feel beautiful, cared for, and seen – not just by others, but by yourself.

So if this Mother’s Day comes with the usual chaos and love and sticky little hands… I want you to also give yourself something back. Even if it feels a little ironic. Even if it feels a little selfish (it’s not). Take the time. Step away for a moment. Fill your cup.

Because when you do, you don’t just benefit, you come back softer, calmer, more present, and able to give in a way that doesn’t leave you completely empty.

And that’s the kind of mum your kids need. And it’s the kind of mum who feels like herself again. 🥰
