Healing for Women: Boudoir After Toxic Relationships ❤️🩹
Some women walk into my studio quietly, while others arrive carrying a story so powerful you can feel it before a single word is spoken, and Ms L was very much one of those women.
When she first enquired, she didn’t dress it up or soften it, she simply said it exactly as it was: “I have come out of a toxic 34 year marriage, my self confidence was battered. I feel I have had a glow up after my divorce and really want to feel and see it.” And honestly, that gave me goosebumps, because that level of honesty and self-awareness is often where the most powerful transformations begin. ✨

Thirty four years is not just a relationship, it’s a lifetime of being shaped by someone else’s words, expectations and energy, and when you finally step out of something like that, it’s not just your circumstances that change. It’s your entire sense of self. There’s grief, there’s anger, there’s relief, and somewhere in the middle of all of that there’s often a quiet little spark that starts to grow, whispering that maybe this is your time now. 🌸
That’s exactly where Ms L was when she walked into my studio, in that in-between space where she was no longer the woman she used to be, but hadn’t quite fully stepped into the woman she was becoming yet, and that is such a powerful place to be, even if it doesn’t always feel like it at the time.

This is where boudoir becomes so much more than just photos, because it turns into a turning point, a moment where you get to pause, reconnect, and see yourself from a completely different perspective. From the moment Ms L arrived, there was this beautiful mix of strength and vulnerability about her, you could tell she had been through a lot, but you could also tell that she was ready, ready to reclaim herself, ready to see herself differently, and ready to step into this next chapter with intention. 💖
Hair and makeup is always where that transformation begins, not just on the outside, but on the inside too, because it’s often the first time in a long time that someone is being taken care of, that they are sitting still and allowing the focus to be entirely on them. For women who have spent years putting themselves last, it can feel unfamiliar at first, but slowly the shoulders drop, everything softens, and you start to see glimpses of the woman underneath everything she’s been carrying.

By the time Ms L stepped in front of the camera, I could already see that glow up she had talked about. She looked healthy and radiant, and I wanted this shoot to give that version of her the space to shine. She brought lingerie that made her feel confident, feminine and powerful, nothing that felt like a costume or like she was trying to be someone else, just elevated, beautiful versions of her.
And then we added the wings. 😍
Now, I’ve used those angel wings many times in my studio, but every now and then someone puts them on and it just clicks in a way that’s hard to explain, like they were made for her, and that was exactly what happened with Ms L. There was something incredibly symbolic about it, because after everything she had been through, she didn’t look fragile or broken, she looked powerful, like someone who had walked through fire and come out the other side stronger, wiser and completely transformed. 🔥

That’s the thing about what people often call a “glow up”, it’s so easy to think it’s about appearance, the hair, the makeup, the outfits, but the real glow up comes from within, from choosing yourself again, from walking away from what no longer serves you, and from deciding that your life doesn’t end after heartbreak, it begins again in a completely new way.
You could see that in every single photo we captured, in the way Ms L held herself, in the way she looked at the camera, and in the way she allowed herself to be seen, there was confidence there, but not the loud, performative kind, it was grounded, calm, and deeply real, the kind that comes from knowing exactly who you are and what you’ve been through to get there. 👏

After a toxic relationship, it’s so easy to shrink, to doubt yourself, to question your worth and wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. Part of what I have built my brand around is boudoir after toxic relationships, body changes and trauma, because while it can look superficial on the outside, this experience can be so fundamentally healing to women who have been through these things.
Ms L chose to rise, to honour how far she has come, to celebrate the strength it took to leave, and to step into a version of herself that feels aligned, confident and free. 🔥
By the end of her session, there was no hesitation left, no second guessing, no holding back, just a woman who could finally see herself the way she deserved to all along, and that is what makes this experience so powerful. It doesn’t erase the past or pretend things didn’t happen, but it gives you a new perspective, a new way of seeing yourself, and a reminder that you are still worthy, still beautiful and still powerful, no matter what you’ve been through. 💜

Ms L, I am so incredibly proud of you, proud of your courage, your growth, and the way you have stepped into this new chapter of your life, and to anyone reading this who might see a little bit of themselves in her story, maybe you’re rebuilding, maybe you’re starting over, or maybe you’re just beginning to feel that spark again, this is your reminder that you are allowed to glow up, you are allowed to start again, and you are absolutely allowed to feel beautiful again, because you don’t need permission for that… but if you’re waiting for it, consider it granted. ✨
